Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream Review

This has become one of my favourite hand creams very quickly, I've used up around 3 full sized and 2 deluxe sample sized hand creams of this so far. Depicted is a deluxe sample size which is almost finished. I always cut open the tube to make sure I don't throw away any product.

It costs £21 for 100ml which is costly in comparison to other hand creams which may cost around £10 for 100ml, but this is a luxury product. It is available online and at Clarins counters.

It has a delicate scent which isn't very strong nor very floral, I'm awful at describing scents so you'll have to go and take a whiff yourselves in store but it's definitely a good one. I can't stand very potent scents as they make me feel nauseous and this doesn't do that.

The packaging is minimalist and simple, the 100ml is a good size to throw into your handbag, keep at your desk, have in your car etc. It's not huge but it is larger than other hand creams.

The product itself is a white cream, not very thick like a balm but not so thin to be a lotion, it sinks in quickly and is a pleasure to use. As for the claims, yes it does soften hands, I don't have any age spots so cannot confirm or deny that it minimises them; I do agree that it strengthens nails.

I think it would be suitable for all skins, I suffer from very dry hands in the Winter and especially when I have to wash them all the time and this does help to moisturise them and make them feel a bit better. I have started to get rough dry patches too, for which I combine this and a balm and it works pretty well.

I would repurchase this even though it is so expensive, I have many hand creams to use up already so will be concentrating on those, as well as another tube of this. It is most definitely a luxury product and you could save it to only use at night before bed or whenever you prefer to get the most out of it.

No7 Beautiful Skin Quick Thinking Wipes

These are No7's face wipes, you get 30 wipes for £7, resulting in each wipe costing around 23pence, however there are always No7 £5 off vouchers floating around (which is how I buy and stock up on these wipes) making a pack cost £2!

They are available on Boots' website here and in stores. No7 claim these are suitable for all skin types, hypoallergenic and remove waterproof mascara, I've found them to be suitable for my skin type, normal/combination, and they also remove some waterproof mascara but not all, although I tend to avoid waterproof mascara because it is so difficult to remove in general and there aren't many instances during which I'd need its services.

They are very soft and gentle, and adequately soaked with moisture making them easy to use. I use them a lot, and I really like them a lot. I prefer them to a lot of other brands that I've tried. These wipes aren't textured at all though, which is something I quite like on the Nivea wipes.

They remove all of my makeup when I'm wearing only a little and most if I'm wearing a full face of it, I don't think there's much more I can say!

*No7 claim to be cruelty free however aren't listed on BUAV, but the EU ban of being able to sell cosmetics tested on animals is now in effect, so they must be...*

Review: No7 Radiance Boosting Hot Cloth Cleanser

This is one of many hot cloth cleansers and the first I ever used, it is available from Boots at £9 for 200ml, and with the £5 off No7 vouchers it is only £4! It is packaged in a plastic pump bottle which dispenses an adequate amount of cleanser in one pump for the entire face, I occasionally used two pumps if I wanted to use it on my neck too. A cloth is also provided although the quality and longevity isn't too brilliant. The entire bottle lasted me 2 months, using it once a day and sometimes twice. The cloth remained usable throughout the 2 months but became increasingly more difficult to use and less effective as time went on.

The texture of the cleanser is a soft cream, which rubs into the skin well and feels lovely to work with. Once the cleanser has been applied and massaged in slightly, or more so if you'd like, taking the cloth and rinsing it in hot water you slowly rub the cleanser off in circular motions to encourage exfoliation (after placing it on your face to open pores for a while - but this step did nothing for me so I began to leave it out). After about 3-4weeks use I noticed a considerable difference in my skin, it was a lot smoother, fewer breakouts, and despite me assuming that it wouldn't make my skin feel clean, it felt incredibly clean and refreshed after each use (apart from when the cloth seemed to wear down!) I feel that my skin did look more radiant, but as with all skincare products you need to allow time to see a noticeable improvement.

The value of this product works out to be 4.5p per ml at £9 and 2p per ml at £4 so I do think that in terms of value this is a great product. I have already repurchased this but I'm not sure if I would repurchase again because of the competition the hot cloth cleanser has in general. I have two more from different brands waiting to be used so will use those, and compare, then maybe stick to one - or try the last one I seem to have missed as well!

Review: 17 Miami Pop Collection Lipgloss

This is part of 17's Limited Edition Summer Collection named Miami Pop. Today I'm reviewing the lipgloss, which was available from Boots at £3.99 for 6.5ml. (I'm not 100% sure if it's still available or not...I haven't seen the collection in Boots for some time now though!) It's a very bright pink colour without any shimmer but with a pretty shine.

It has a doe foot applicator and very sleek packaging. I love the bright pink and flamingo on the tube. When applying it takes about 3 pumps to cover my lips entirely, but as they are quite pigmented already only a pink sheen is visible, it can be layered to make it more opaque but I liked the touch of colour for summer. The applictor remains very clean only picking up product on the doe-foot, I really like that about this lipgloss. It wears on me for around 2-3hours with eating and drinking, and didn't look terrible when worn away either. It isn't sticky which is something I always look for in a lipgloss so is great in that sense. The formula seems to soften and moisturise my lips, I hadn't applied any lip balm prior to putting the lipgloss on but my lips felt moisturised upon application.

I think on less pigmented lips this would look a lot brighter and more "summery". Although I really like this lipgloss I wouldn't class it as an essential or an absolute necessary buy, but it is a bargain at £3.99, and has many pros.

Review: 17 Adapt-itude Adapting Skin Match Foundation SPF15

Available in 4 skin-tone adapting shades, Extra Fair, Fair, Medium, Medium/Dark this is 17's answer to a light-weight summer foundation, and it is! You can find it at Boots for £6.29.

I found this to be very similar to a tinted moisturiser but with more coverage, it feels very light when applied and is simple and easy to apply. I use a stippling brush or a foundation brush and tend to set with powder. It lasts for a full day (around 8hrs) without slipping/sliding/smudging. I feel it is the perfect drugstore foundation for summer, although there is some slipping in incredibly hot weather - as experienced today. It is generally transfer-proof but not as highly so as some more expensive foundations.

In terms of value for the 30ml of product at £6.29 and the quality of the foundation itself, I certainly don't think it's a bad deal at all. It is a pretty much perfect summer foundation. The nozzle on the tube is easy to work with and apply product without any waste. Using the 17 Photo Flawless Primer ensured that this stayed on more comfortably on my skin. As for the flawless finish promised this is achieved, and the SPF15 is always a welcome addition!

The 2 nail polishes included are Pink Grapefruit and Knockout Red. Then there's the nail file and nail art stickers. I've been messing around with the file and stickers and they both seem of great quality, the nail art stickers I didn't think I'd like at all because of the animal print (I hate animal print), but they look surprisingly good on nails!

I've yet to use the nail polishes, but as soon as I have a few times I'll definitely stick a review up on here! Not to worry ;)

Overall I think this is a great deal, I bought 2 nail polishes and got this set, making the deal essentially BOGOF plus extra bits! I generally find that 17 products are of a high quality too and have yet to experience any problems with them so I was very happy with this! I would have preferred it if there were different shades of nail polish available, maybe 3 different sets and you could go on a collecting mission...but I'm very happy with my purchases and my free gift(s).

17 Summer 2011 Limited Edition Miami Pop Collection

Hi!

I thought I'd write a blogpost on 17's Miami Pop Collection for this summer as I haven't seen that many posts on it so far, and as you know I'm a fan of 17 so I thought I should!

This collection is out now and available in Boots stores across the nation, starting from as little as £2.99 to a slightly higher price of £4.99. As you can imagine, in my excited state I bought the lot! The items themselves are of a decent size and the packaging is very clean and funky with flamingos patterned on top.

There are 4 items in this collection, very bright, colourful and on trend with pinks and oranges. These are as follows:

• Bronzer - £4.99
• Lipgloss - £3.99
• Nail Polish in Palm Beach and Down Town - £2.99 each

This is the first bronzer I've ever purchased so I'm hoping it doesn't make me look terribly orange, like all other bronzers and their respective artists have piled onto my face resulting in a walking-talking orange...me. *shudders at the memories*

So anyway, there will be separate reviews as soon as I've tried the collection for a period of time I consider to be adequate for review. At the moment there is also an offer on 17, so when you buy any 2 17 products you receive a Nail Bar in a Bag. This consists of 2 polishes, nail art stickers and a nail file - brilliant! I'll put that up in another post for you too.

How I spent my No7 vouchers

Hi!

I thought I'd talk about how I spent my No7 vouchers, they ran out the Sunday just gone by and before that I managed to collect 6 vouchers and used them all on the following. I got 3 Poppy King lipsticks and 1 lipgloss and 2 eye brushes, all with £5 off of each item!

Starting with the brushes:

- Eye Colour Brush (£6.64)
I would think this is very similar to Mac's 239 brush in terms of a brush to apply colour to the eyes. I like that it's a bit shorter than most brushes in length because I tend to bash my brush ends against the bathroom mirror when trying to get so close!

- Precision Eyeliner Brush (£6.75)
This brush reminds me of the brush you get with Maybelline's new gel eyeliner, it looks very precise too.

Onto the Poppy King lip products:

- Confidence Lipgloss (Deep brown - £11.00)
- History Lipstick (Neutral red - £12.00)
- Power Lipstick (Pink-red - £12.00)
- Seduction Lipstick (Deep plum - £12.00)

All of these look gorgeous and I can't wait to try them, I actually wish I had more No7 vouchers because I'm in a collect 'em all! Mood with these, especially the lipsticks if not the lipglosses. In this The Magic of Lipstick range there are 7 different lipsticks and corresponding lipglosses for every occasion for every woman. I think this is a permanent line with more products to be launched in future, I can't wait for the No7 vouchers to start again because I plan on collecting all these lipsticks and then onto No7's bodycare, which I've never tried before.

Review: Boots Natural Collection Face Masks

These are 2 face masks I picked up from Boots on my regular visits for 99p each, although I'm pretty sure they're £1.01 now thanks to the VAT increase! Also, apologies for the labeling as Beauty Blogging Away, as I'm sure everyone knows I've decided to change the name and layout to The Beauty Chat.

So back to the masks, the one on the left is a Wild Strawberry Face Mask, it smells amazing and exactly like strawberries have been plonked generously onto you face. It's not as thick as I expect the average mask to be, and is very soothing to the skin. You receive 10ml in each sachet which is plenty for 2-3 applications, I tried to make 10ml work for 1 application and it was far too much! This mask smells great, feels great on the skin and makes my skin feel softer once taken off. It's easy to apply and to remove you just wash your face in warm water - job done.

The mask on the right is the Rosemary and Witch Hazel mask, more so for blemish prone, oily, combination, problem skin. I really liked this mask, it has a thicker consistency than the Wild Strawberry mask and smells a bit like Witch Hazel I think. After using this mask my pores seemed a little more reduced and my skin smoother and a lot happier in general. This also has enough for 2-3 applications and you can generally squeeze out 3! Application and removal is easy and the effect is what I'd expect from a mask.

At £1.01 each I think these are great, easy masks to use and a little treat a few times a week. I enjoyed using these and would recommend them for all skin types, but maybe not the Witch Hazel one for extremely sensitive skin types. Overall I'd give these masks a 7/10 because they're not magical or extremely amazing, just your standard face mask that smells lovely!

Review: NEW Simple Kind to Eyes Eye Make-Up Corrector Pen

Phew! Managed to write out the lengthy name of this product successfully!

This is Simple's answer to all our little make-up mistakes, a corrector pen, what a fantastic idea! I'm forever placing eyeliner way above my lash line accidentally and this has been such a saviour, I don't need to get out a cotton pad and makeup remover, then skillfully attempt to remove the wrong-doing, I just pick up the pen, swipe it across my mistake and wipe the pen. Job done.

It's available exclusively at Boots for £4.99. I, personally don't like the price, because it's such a small item, and it's more of a convenience product as opposed to a necessity. It doesn't smell dodgy, fits into a pocket/handbag very easily, is small and easily usable. As it is the first of it's kind, I think Simple are able to have the price near £5, also because of the crazy prices of everything nowadays! Although it certainly is a very exciting product.

I don't think I would exchange £4.99 for this pen again simply because although it's slightly more of a hassle, I'm very capable of using a cotton bud with a bit of makeup remover on and doing exactly the same job.

Overall, it's a lovely and very innovative item, just not entirely worth it in my opinion. However as it is the first of it's kind and I'm sure Simple and other brands will be looking into consumer feedback, there may be an improved version out soon! You never know! I give it a 7/10!

Review: No7 Natural Blush Cheek Colour in Candy Pink

This is such a pretty blush with a gorgeous colour to it once applied onto the cheeks. It's by No7 and named Candy Pink very appropriately I think. It costs £9 and is available from Boots but with the £5 off vouchers currently in circulation it'll only cost you £4! Bargain!

The texture of this blush is very soft and "powdery", which in turn begs the question (in my head anyway) why it isn't chalky...that just shows the brilliance of the blush in my opinion! It goes on very well with your fingers or a blush brush, I use Mac's usually and I find that it leaves a very pretty natural looking blush on my cheeks.

I usually tend to put on a bit more as it tends to wear off during the day but by midday it looks absolutely perfect with my skintone. I also think it would look great on all skintones because of the buildable nature of this blush. You can either pile it on straight away by picking up lots or gently build up, it's completely up to you. It's very natural looking generally, but you can choose to go for a more dramatic look if you wanted.

I really love the packaging, it's very sleek and compact and fits perfectly into all my cosmetics bags, large or small! I've bought a back-up of this blush just in case it runs out soon, (seeing as I'm using it very often), but on the compact it says that they've changed the formula and the blush looks a lot more pink...hmm...

You receive 5g of product which is quite a bit of blush and it's lasting me for a very long time. It is definitely one of my favourite blushes that I've come to love recently. Overall it's an 8/10 from me!

Review: No7 Stay Perfect Nail Top Coat

Just ergh. The most horrible disgusting useless top coat I've ever tried, and it's from such a reputable brand. it costs £7 and is available at Boots if you want to give it a go.

Now I'll explain why it's the worst top coat I've ever come across.

- It's gloopy - on the brush it's gloopy and gunky, the consistency isn't nice enough for you to want to polish your fine manicure with.

- It's bubbly - it creates bubbles, micro, tiny, yucky bubbles on my nails which completely ruins them.

- Drying time is FOREVER - it takes forever to dry, even after about 2 hours, you may think that your nails are ready to touch and you can continue your daily chores but NO! If you touch a nail you will have a splodge or a nasty fingerprint left on whichever pretty colour you've chosen to paint your nails with.

- It's Sticky - this isn't really to do with the nails exactly, but if you accidentally do manage to place it somewhere else, it sticks and is very hard to get off or even smooth down to a level of near invisibility.

- It leaves strings - this is a really unattractive, it leaves strings while transporting it onto the nail from the bottle, like honey leaves trails on a spoon!

Basically this top coat sucks, in every way possible. It gives nothing required of a top coat apart from the shine if you manage to get 1 little nail done properly with this.

This really baffles me because I adore No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colours, and they're of a good consistency and wear pretty well. It's just this top coat that ruins my nails completely and does nothing useful. Sorry, it does do one useful thing, once on and if you've managed to dry it well it does keep the colour of your nails going strong, but you may not want colour locked onto your nails with bubbles on top! Most of us don't!

I wouldn't pay £7 for this or even £2 with the £5 off vouchers, I remember it being £6.25...just in awe at the increase in prices now!

But this is a definite no no on my part, have you ever tried this? What did you think? Am I the only one?!

Review: Boots Amazon Forest "Passion Flower and Cupuacu" Hand and Nail Cream



I bought this as part of a set a few Christmases ago and I still have it because I can't find it anywhere...this saddened me a lot so I set out to research on the internet to find it, and I did! ...in the US...!

Anyway back to the review and links at the end. This is an amazingly soft and luxurious handcream although very light in texture. It smells of passion fruit, a smell I happen to love :) a very small amount is needed or you're wasting the product as the excess amount will take a lot of time to soak in and your hands won't need it. I like the packaging as it's very simple and compact, so you can pop it into your handbag/purse and off you go.

I'm not sure why Boots haven't got this in the UK anymore, the whole Amazon Forest range has disappeared but there is a similar range although not as amazing in my opinion...

Review: Boots Ingredients Cocoa Butter and Mallow Body Lotion

This is such a handy body lotion to have! It's very moisturising and smells amazing. The scent is flowery but muted, so not overwhelming, it also doesn't linger around for long unless you directly sniff your skin, which is a bonus for me as I find a lot of very strong scents give me headaches unfortunately.

It's only £1.99 and I've used it for a week now and I still have so much left! It's in a 300ml pump bottle which you can twist to dispense or lock the pump so there's no waste! It feels very light on the skin and sinks in quickly, it's not a rich butter if that's what you're after. I think this would be most suited to the summer months because of it's light texture but it works well on elbows and knees so I really like it. It's not my favourite ever so I give it an 8/10.

Review: No7 Radiance Revealed Exfoliator

This retails for £8 at Boots and I really like it! It's a creamy exfoliator with little beads that you can manoeuvre around your face for a decent clean. It's hypo-allergenic and contains fruit acids to help clear your complexion.

You receive 75ml which lasts for a very long time as you only need a tiny amount to wash your face with. I would recommend this especially as a winter exfoliator due to its creamy properties, preventing the skin from drying out as well.

I like the simple tube packaging as its easy to use and keep clean, I've used it now for 3-4weeks daily (I have combination skin and I feel it works fine daily), as it is gentle enough and I notice the slightly clearer complexion I now have.

Review: No7 Cleanse and Care Eye Makeup Remover

I am in love with this product to be very honest, it does exactly what it says on the packaging and I think is also a very nice colour, even though it's not a makeup product.

It is available at Boots for £7.75 (but I'm assuming the price will go up slightly tomorrow thanks to the VAT increase!) and you get 100ml of product.

It has 2 layers, so as you can see from the picture the darker blue is visible on the lower third of the plastic bottle. It is hypo-allergenic and suitable for all skin types, so everyone can give this a try.

It's a light blue liquid/gel which dispenses from a pump very easily onto a cotton pad or whatever you prefer to use and removes eye makeup very quickly and softly. My lashes feel conditioned and softer and my eyes are clear of all makeup. I do recommend washing your face even after using an eye makeup remover because tiny little bits of makeup can remain on your eyes, even with the best makeup removers!

I would definitely recommend this, especially because it is so easy and effective to use, does exactly what it says and doesn't leave makeup marks across your eyes - unless you're wearing a ridiculous amount of makeup, then I think any product would!

I give it a 9/10 - 9 because I do think that an improvement would be to dispense a bit more product in one pump, because I use about 3 pumps and I have to spread them around the cotton pad, so 1 pump for 1 use would be perfect, otherwise this is a perfect product! That's just a tiny issue I have!

Top 5 Skincare Winter Essentials

Hi there,

With all the cold and miserable weather, we certainly need richer and more moisturising products than usual, here are my top 5 skincare items for the winter. It is in no particular order.

1) Handcream! - This is most definitely required many times a day by myself and is vital for keeping your hands comfortable, without it they start to feel very tight and dry as the winter takes all the goodness out of them! I like Soap & Glory's Hand Food, £4.75 at Boots

2) Moisturiser -  this is for night and day, a thicker moisturiser to make sure that your face and neck are getting all the moisture they need, preventing tight, dry skin and dull skin. I find my skin gets a lot duller and paler in the winter and am yet to find a moisturiser that fixes that unfortunately, but for the moment I do like Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream, which has a rich consistency - however I dislike the rosy/flowery smell...£7.99 at Boots

3) Body Moisturiser! - A must! Dry, flaky skin is unattractive and very uncomfortable, I get itchy and yucky when I'm standing next to the radiators trying to keep warm, my favourite at the moment is Strawberry Body Butter, £5-£12.50 at The Body Shop, keeps you moisturised and smelling A-mazing!

4) Lip balm - another vital item to carry around with you, preventing dry cracked lips, my favourite at the moment are the Carmex lip balms, in a handy tube so your hands don't get covered in it, available at many retailers for £2.59 at Boots

5) Lip Scrub - I hadn't ever used lip scrub before and after reccomendations of Lush's I am now addicted to Sweet Lips Lip Scrub for £4.50
